Clinical Informaticist Lead

2016 to 2021 | Alberta Health Services | Chief Medical Information Office

Provided subject matter expertise for virtual health implementation delivery during COVID-19 pandemic for clinical collaboration and care coordination activities.
Lead development of virtual training and support delivery model for Alberta physicians (8k+ individuals) during Connect Care implementation, introduced digital collaboration tools to support multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed project team members, and created workflows to enable participation of non-IT team members in traditionally IT driven workflows.
Introduced automation, database structures, and data visualization tools to improve internal team workflows resulting in approximately $100k annual savings in efficiency gains.
Contributing member of project workgroups and committees (e.g.: Specialty Training Group, Research Integration Working Group, Edmonton Zone Clinical Decision Support Committee, and Edmonton Zone Professional Practice Informatics Council).

Board Member

2018 to present | University of Alberta | Health Ethics Board

This Board reviews invasive health research involving patients, health information, imaging studies, as well as studies involving the use of tissues. The Board deals with applications that involve invasive interventions and invasive measures, regardless of how significant a part the intervention or measure has in the overall project, for example: administration of drugs, vaccines, natural health products, use of an unlicensed device, surgical procedures, collection of blood or other specimens and work involving human stem cells.
As a member, responsibilities include providing review of study protocols, consenting documents, and any additional documentation related to the conduct of the study. Members must be familiar with the TCPS2 guidelines for the ethical conduct of research involving human participants, ICH Good Clinical Practices guidelines, as well as various pieces of legislation such as Alberta’s Health Information Act, the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act, and the Alberta Hospitals Act.

Senior Clinical Research Coordinator

Responsible for managing industry and investigator initiated clinical trials. Working with pharmaceutical (e.g.: Roche, Novartis, Janssen) and local sponsors ensure that research team met local, FDA, Health Canada, and international obligations.
Key achievements include successful preparation of site for Health Canada Inspection involving a Phase III multinational pharmaceutical trial and participants diagnosed with hematological malignancies.
Successfully wrote and submitted an Alberta Privacy Impact Assessment to establish the Edmonton Pediatric IBD registry.
Negotiated data sharing agreement for clinical information system access between Alberta Health Services and eHealth Saskatchewan.
Supervised, mentored, evaluated medical students and research assistants.
